For New York Music Month WKCR takes over Ergot Records in the East Village to do a LIVE daytime broadcast hosted by WKCR’s own Prezzo of Groove Trackers Radio, Isadora, Ayanna Heaven and Ergot Records owner Adrian Rew for an afternoon of conversation, music, digging and more. The station invites artists and music lovers alike to come through and learn more about their station ethos, and why supporting the alternative is so essential. WKCR is Columbia University’s non-commercial student-run FM radio station, dedicated to presenting a spectrum of alternative and local programming — focusing on traditional and art music, spoken arts, and original journalism. The station exists to preserve and share independent music, news, art, and history with listeners, and has long been a launch pad for emerging artists here in NYC - going back to The Stretch and Bobbito Show, Monday Morning in Mono + more! - and remains a vital incubator for local news and new artists trying to connect with local audiences. To listen to WKCR, tune in at 89.9 FM in the New York Metro area or hear us through our webstream available on WKCR.org.

co-sign returns this June with a new edition of Radio City, a free event series during NY Music Month celebrating one of New York’s most vital cultural resources: independent, non-commercial radio. Curated in partnership with local stations including WFUV, WFMU, The Lot Radio, WNYC, Sheroes Radio, East Village Radio, Maker Park Radio, and WKCR, the series highlights the essential role independent radio plays in shaping New York’s music and media ecosystem.

For decades, New York’s independent FM and online stations have served as trusted platforms for music discovery, artist development, and community storytelling. Throughout June, participating stations will host free public events across the city designed to reconnect with audiences, showcase their unique programming and missions, and create pathways for artists and fans to engage directly with the airwaves.

Radio City brings together artists, music fans, and industry professionals to foster community, expand audiences, and reinforce the importance of supporting local radio. In an increasingly homogenized media landscape, independent radio remains one of the few deeply curated, culturally responsive, and community-rooted spaces for discovery and connection.
