Commodore II14 Loisada Ave (Ave C at 2nd Street, East Village)
In these times of a narrowing set of corporatized avenues for artists to gain public attention, the monopolization of virtually every singular radio station being sucking into larger platforms with profits over promotion, EVR remains committed to its original cause: a grassroots source of independent minded DJs and programmers that serves its community. Free of dictated playlists, our hosts come from a wide and diverse background, schooled and deeply knowledgeable about their passion. Come through June 4th and meet some of the station’s DJs, and learn more about the station’s commitment to amplify the East Village identity as a crossroads of a myriad of fused cultures, revolutionary ideologies in art, music, film, poetry and more. EVR looks to focus itself on this legacy with a freeform approach to radio that will blur boundaries and take cues from the great FM stations of the past, and amplify the mission of the few truly independent minded stations that exist in the present. Here we will thread the connections between post-punk, free jazz, minimal techno, hip-hop, global beat, soundtrack music, spoken-word, garage punk, pop, experimental, DIY, reggae, dub, and yet-to-be-christened genres.

co-sign returns this June with a new edition of Radio City — a free event series for NY Music Month celebrating one of New York’s most vital cultural resources: independent, non-commercial radio. In partnership with local stations including WFUV, WFMU, The Lot Radio, WNYC, Shereos Radio, East Village Radio, Maker Park Radio, and WKCR, the series highlights the essential role independent radio plays in New York’s music and media ecosystem.

For decades, New York’s independent FM and online stations have served as trusted platforms for music discovery, artist development, and community storytelling. Throughout June, participating stations will host free public events across the city designed to reconnect with audiences, showcase their unique programming and missions, and create pathways for artists and fans to engage directly with the airwaves.

Radio City brings together artists, music fans, and industry professionals to foster community, expand audiences, and reinforce the importance of supporting local radio. In an increasingly homogenized media landscape, independent radio remains one of the few deeply curated, culturally responsive, and community-rooted spaces for discovery and connection.
