Dan Point

President and Executive Director
Local 802 AFM

Dan Point is a musician, labor leader, and public affairs strategist dedicated to advancing the rights of working performers. A classically trained French hornist, he earned his bachelor’s of music at New York University before embarking on a career in public affairs. With over a decade of experience across city, state, and federal government, he established a reputation for broad coalition-building and strategic leadership.

Point’s dual passions for music and politics brought him to Local 802 of the American Federation of Musicians, where he served as chief of staff for three administrations. In these roles, he guided the union through several high-profile negotiations, helping deliver a historic wage increase in 2024 for the New York Philharmonic and, in 2025, averting a strike by securing the first 3-year Broadway Musician agreement since the COVID pandemic.

Since becoming President of Local 802 in January 2026, Point remains focused on strengthening protections for musicians in a rapidly evolving industry. Drawing on both his artistic background and political expertise, he is committed to securing fair contracts, fostering unity, and ensuring that live music remains a vital force in New York City’s cultural and economic life.
