Studio40 Community Skillshare Workshop: Sound Designing Your Story 101

June 6 @ 5:00 pm - 6:00 pm

Free

Community Skillshare Workshops tap into the wealth of experience and knowledge present in the studio40 community at The New York Public Library, and support peer-to-peer knowledge sharing.  In this series, artists from studio40 apply to share on creative production topics of their choice.

Workshops will focus on topics in audio & production for the month of June for New York Music Month. Stay tuned for future Community Skillshare Workshops throughout the summer!

Sound design is the art form in telling a story through audio. While audio is a huge component to storytelling, what exactly do you hear while watching a movie or show? What are the necessary steps to making an immersive narrative? Learn the basics and get started on creating your own sound for your story!

In this workshop you will learn how to:

  1. Identify the three key features in sound design (dialogue, sound effects, music)
  2. Understand the structure to building a world in audio (mixing tracks)
  3. Recognize other strategies in sound design (foley, adr, diegetic vs non-diegetic music)
