Jana La Sorte is Administrator of Historic Harlem Parks for NYC Parks. She builds the future of the four large historic Harlem parks (Jackie Robinson, Marcus Garvey, Morningside, St. Nicholas Park) working with the Manhattan commissioner, parks support groups, community and cultural organizations, elected officials and others. Her recent music initiatives include the premiere of Questlove’s “Summer of Soul” at Marcus Garvey Park; creating an annual jazz festival with City College at St Nicholas Park; and inaugurating Marcus Garvey Park as a new annual opening night venue for The Metropolitan Opera. Also a professor of cultural entrepreneurship, Jana founded Ambassadora, which advises arts, social impact and education clients including Motema Music, Capital Bop, Horns to Havana, Jazz Power Initiative, Harlem Stage and others. A CORO Leadership NY fellow and National Arts Strategies fellow, she was executive director of the dance and social justice nonprofit Urban Bush Women.
