Director, Joe's Pub

Alex Knowlton is the Director of Joe’s Pub, a program of the Public Theater, which is hailed as one of New York City’s most prestigious and genre-defying venues for emerging and established artists. Alongside Yacine Boulares and Meera Dugal, Knowlton co-founded Habibi Fest, an annual celebration of music from the SWANA region which launched in the fall of 2021. Additionally, Alex supports the career development as artist manager of bassist, singer-songwriter and composer Mali Obomsawin. Previously he handled programming for Jazz at Lincoln Center’s Rose Theater and Appel Room and produced tours for Wynton Marsalis’s esteemed JALC Orchestra as well as the annual globalFEST flagship festival. Earlier in his career, Knowlton worked extensively in the realm of touring and communications – handling domestic tour logistics for boutique booking agency International Music Network (IMN), and managing marketing and public relations for both Joe’s Pub and Yoshi’s Jazz Club in Oakland, CA.
